The Olympic opening ceremony took place last night at the Olympic Park Stadium lasting over three hours and thirty minutes before a sensational closing. Not before an assortment of global fashion was showcased however as Olympic style was given its own runway featuring the world's athletes and their countries most eligible designers.
Naturally I critiqued every single aspect of every single country to strut their stuff around the Stadium and all in all I found it extremely entertaining and immensely satisfying. For me personally, Team USA (or Team America) knocked it straight out of the park for me and this was before I even saw the Team in all their glory. I was hooked from Michelle Obama's radiant attendance but Team USA rocked it in Ralph Lauren. A navy, double breasted blazer featuring gold medallion buttons and the white polo motif on the breast pocket. They even donned a black beret for some reason. Jamaica coming in a close second to the Yanks winning the award for the most colourful with the girls' printed leggings a unique and welcome touch. Bold tropical greens, yellows with black detailing from Bob Marley's Cedella. A taste of the Island.
Third place goes to the nautical Netherlands sporting a variety of classic, tapered blazers featuring orange trench coats, chinos and cream cricket jumpers to name a few impressionable details. Team GB rolled in last being this year's Olympic host and it was definitely not worth the wait. Designed by Stella McCartney only one thing comes to mind when gazing upon the astronaut influenced white tracksuit complete with metallic lining and gold foiled hoods and that is 'what the hell were you thinking Stella!?!?'. Eyes of the world on the UK and you dress us up like a cross between Vicki Pollard and a Space Chimpanzee. Cheers for that. Stella commented she wanted every member of Team GB to feel 'special'...well I can't think of anyone in the world who would not feel special wrapped up in a thermal space blanket can you?
Another noteworthy disaster comes from Spain's Pizza Delivery/Formula One Mechanic get-up from Bosco. With further blips occurring from the minds of Russia's paisley purple printed sports jackets and Mexico's vibrant luminous ponchos. No more needs said.
