Belfast FASHIONWEEK Rises

Belfast's West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK's official launch kicked off in spectacular fashion at the Merchant Hotel on Thursday. Situated on the stylish and contemporary rooftop lounge alongside some stunning city views, FASHIONWEEK divulged in presenting an insightful preview of their upcoming fourteenth season, Autumn/Winter 2012. Let the magic commence.
Scheduled to run from October 13 through to October 21, FASHIONWEEK will showcase numerous trends and fashion forward events throughout various locations across the city of Belfast. Including kids shows, style workshops and the Diet Coke Design Award. My personal favourites being the Highstreet and local Designer catwalk shows featuring homegrown talent from the likes of University of Ulster graduates Nor Lisa and Dave Henderson, knitwear designers Mary Callan and Sean Henry and milliner John Paul, to name but a few.
So what can we expect on the catwalk then? Tartans, brocades, jacquards, hounds tooth, tweeds, reds, royal blues, blacks, golds and greys were the main focus. The ultimate Autumn/Winter trend of course naturally being on display for all to see in the form of the all important seasonal look known simply as layering.
Director Cathy Martin commented, "there will be a lot of military coats and capes. Looking at colours, it's all about red or royal blue as well as pyjama prints and a lot of monochrome and hounds tooth this winter. These looks, and many more, have all made their mark on the international catwalks and with our sense of style and adventure we hope to ffer some amazing days and nights of fashionable fun for all ages." Not to mention the stunning models, eleven in total, who rocked all the looks and more resembling a majestic all-female encompassing body of the United Nations. Power, confidence and dare a say a spark of complete intimidation. Possibly the future leaders of the world and if they were holding weapons...it would happen a lot sooner.
